The real Hero of Harry Potter

When people think of the Harry Potter books or the movies a small boy of crazy black hair, green daring eyes, and a lightning bolt scar come to mind. He is the boy who lived and in the end defeats Voldermort (sorry if that was a surprise to those still reading the books). He sacrifices everything to make the world a better and safe place. He defiantly gets kudos from my book. Fans love him, but even the fictional world that J.K. Rowling magically creates is also crazy about the famous, good- looking and talented boy. He is a real hero. But he is not the only hero of Harry Potter's world. People would agree that his friends, teachers, and peers play small parts of heroism as well. That is worth noting, but I speak of an unlikely hero that emerges from the Harry Potter books. I speak of even a greater hero then the famous Harry Potter. I speak about my favorite character; the unlikely greasy- haired and dark- countenance Professor Snape. He is a Death Eater. He kills Dumbledore. He despises Harry Potter. He is ugly. He is mean. How then is Professor Snape a hero if he is all of the above. Dumbledore proclaims the most powerful magic is love and it is through Snape's unrequited love that he becomes good. He changes over to the "good side" if you will and serves Dumbledore till the very end. He saves the very boy he hates, but more than that he sacrifices fame, glory and popularity to do what is right. At the end of book six the entire wizarding world hates Snape. Potter seeks revenge and I promise you every reader or movie- goer who has entered J.K. Rowling's imagination learns the meaning of true hatred. Snape knows this would happen and he still has the courage to do what is right. It is easy to do what is right when there are people cheering you on or when the reward is grand, but to do what is right when no one cares or even despises you for it- now that is another story. Harry gets a kudo from my book, but Professor Snape gets a standing applause.
